For the last several weeks I have been on an information collection spree for anything that had to do with marketing to local businesses.

Having a small business background, I was one step away from jumping out the window for not realizing the great opportunity that was right in front of me.

Not to waste any time, I quickly got an LLC to be the base of my consulting business. Then I set about creating a web site. I just used a free template site from Jaime Mintun for now. The first plan of attack was to speak to local business groups about how they could profit by using simple web marketing techniques just about any warrior would know or could learn about and practice in a few days. It was titled “How Retail and Service Business Owners Can Use the Internet to Get More Local Business to Their Establishments….”
I wrote the speech.

I looked up a few Chamber of Commerce calendars to see their next meetings and went to do some gold mining.

Well, I’m no dummy…..I was painfully apparent that something was wrong. In all of the information I was reading, business owners should be jumping up and down over each other throwing cash at me to so I could help them make more money. This was just not happening.

Was I a leper? Did I have terminal bad breath? Did I not shower the day before? Hmmm………

After thinking over the conversations that I had with those business owners at the Chamber of Commerce, I realized that I was missing something.

It was the main point of all the offline marketing threads and all those reports. You need to get the attention of the business owner in a non-sales, non confrontational manner.

The Chamber is a great way to pick up leads, but I needed something to follow up with the owners to continue the conversation lead them to a sale.

The other thing I truly was avoiding was the dreaded cold call. Supposedly according to the thread and the reports is that you just walk into any store and strike up a conversation with the owner and edge your way into SEO thing.

Get up out of your chair, run right out and try that. Good, your back? Oh, I see you didn’t even move. Me either. Cold calling that way sucks. A lot.

What was needed was leverage. Something you could use to get your foot in the door of any small business owner and get them thinking about web marketing and what it could do for them. You need a way to get their minds and your mind right.

Something to get your mind off of all the horrible things you think are going to happen and get you out there where the money is.

You need leverage to overcome the fear and unease of cold calling a local business. You need a way to change your mindset from being an interrupting useless sales beggar to a king who generously bestowing gifts to his servants. This will change your inactivity to action.

This WSO is idea I use to create a special product that you give to the local business owner. The product is a simple valuable thing that you do for them. An offer they will not refuse.

It is your golden path way to overcome all you cold call fears and get into the owners back office with their computer and make your sale.

The product was created by linking two common items together. Hopefully you will be kicking yourself for not thinking of it sooner, just like I did when first reading that offline gold report.

No special IM skills are needed to create the product. You need the normal IM tools:

Domain Name

Web Hosting

FTP

Etc.

And a little bit of PHP experience is helpful but you can learn what you need. The only expenses are the domain and hosting.

Nothing you wouldn’t need to run a SEO/web business anyway………..
